Köpfe der Wissenschaft
Mit „Köpfe der Wissenschaft“ habe ich ein Projekt geschaffen, das Wissenschaftlerinnen sichtbar macht. Nicht als Randnotiz, nicht als Quote und nicht reduziert auf Klischees, sondern als starke Persönlichkeiten, die Forschung, Innovation und Zukunft aktiv mitgestalten.
In meiner Arbeit als Wissenschaftsfotografin begegnen mir immer wieder beeindruckende Frauen aus Forschung, Technik und Wissenschaft. Frauen, die hochkomplexe Themen vorantreiben, Institute leiten, Technologien entwickeln oder an Lösungen für gesellschaftlich relevante Fragen arbeiten und trotzdem oft viel zu wenig sichtbar sind.
Genau dort setzt dieses Projekt an.
Faces of Science
With Faces of Science, I created a project that shines a spotlight on women in science. Not as a footnote, not as a token quote, and not reduced to stereotypes, but as accomplished individuals who actively shape research, innovation, and the future.
Through my work as a science photographer, I regularly meet remarkable women working across science, research, and technology. These are women who drive highly complex fields forward, lead institutes, develop new technologies, and work on solutions to some of society’s most pressing challenges—yet all too often, they remain far less visible than they should be.
That is precisely where this project comes in.
Warum
„Köpfe der Wissenschaft“
und nicht „Frauen in der Wissenschaft“?
Der Titel ist bewusst gewählt.
Denn dieses Projekt soll Frauen nicht auf ihr Geschlecht reduzieren. Es geht nicht darum, Frauen als „besondere Ausnahme“ innerhalb der Wissenschaft darzustellen. Es geht um Persönlichkeiten, Ideen, Haltung, Forschung und Sichtbarkeit.
Der Begriff „Köpfe“ steht dabei für Menschen, die etwas bewegen. Für Expertise, Gedanken, Innovation und wissenschaftliche Arbeit auf höchstem Niveau.
Natürlich stehen in diesem Projekt insbesondere Frauen im Fokus, weil sie in vielen wissenschaftlichen Bereichen trotz enormer Leistungen noch immer weniger sichtbar sind. Aber der Blick des Projekts richtet sich nicht auf das „Frau sein“ allein, sondern auf die Menschen, ihre Arbeit und ihre Wirkung.
Ich glaube, dass starke Vorbilder in Wissenschaft und Technik viel verändern können. Sichtbarkeit schafft Inspiration. Sie zeigt anderen Frauen, jungen Wissenschaftlerinnen und kommenden Generationen, dass sie ihren Platz in Forschung, Technologie und Wissenschaft selbstverständlich einnehmen können.
Und genau dafür steht „Köpfe der Wissenschaft“.
Why “Faces of Science” and not “Women in Science”?
The title was chosen deliberately.
This project is not about reducing women to their gender. It is not about presenting women as “exceptional cases” within science. It is about people, ideas, values, research, and visibility.
The term Faces represents individuals who make a difference—people whose expertise, ideas, innovation, and scientific achievements help shape the world around us.
Of course, this project focuses specifically on women because, despite their remarkable contributions, they continue to be underrepresented and less visible in many areas of science and technology. Yet the project’s perspective is not centred on gender alone. It is centred on the people themselves, their work, and the impact they make.
I believe that strong role models in science and technology can inspire meaningful change. Visibility creates inspiration. It shows other women, young researchers, and future generations that there is a place for them in science, research, and technology—and that they can claim that place with confidence.
That is what Faces of Science stands for.
