Wissenschaftsfotografin?
Mein Name ist Silvia Steinbach und ich bin spezialisiert auf Wissenschaftsfotografie, Forschung und Technik.
Ich fotografiere dort, wo Forschung entsteht. In Laboren, Forschungszentren, technischen Instituten und industriellen Umgebungen. Dort, wo Menschen an neuen Technologien arbeiten, komplexe wissenschaftliche Fragen lösen und Zukunft gestalten.
Mich fasziniert die Verbindung aus Wissenschaft, Innovation und visueller Wirkung. Gerade wissenschaftliche Themen gelten oft als schwer zugänglich oder abstrakt. Genau darin liegt für mich die Herausforderung und gleichzeitig die Stärke meiner Arbeit. Ich entwickle Bildwelten, die Forschung sichtbar machen, Aufmerksamkeit erzeugen und wissenschaftliche Inhalte modern, kraftvoll und klar nach außen transportieren.
Meine Fotografie ist nicht darauf ausgelegt, einfach nur zu dokumentieren. Ich möchte Bilder schaffen, die im Gedächtnis bleiben. Bilder, die zeigen, wie beeindruckend Forschung, Technologie und wissenschaftliche Arbeit tatsächlich sind.
Who Is the Science Photographer?
My name is Silvia Steinbach, and I specialize in science, research, and technology photography.
I photograph the places where research happens, including laboratories, research centers, technical institutes, and industrial environments. These are the spaces where people develop new technologies, tackle complex scientific questions, and help shape the future.
What fascinates me is the intersection of science, innovation, and visual storytelling. Scientific topics are often perceived as complex, abstract, or difficult to access. For me, that is both the challenge and the strength of my work. I create visual narratives that make research visible, capture attention, and communicate scientific achievements in a modern, powerful, and compelling way.
My photography is not simply about documentation. I strive to create images that stay with people. Images that reveal how inspiring, innovative, and impactful scientific research and technological development truly are.
Warum dieses Projekt?
Im Laufe meiner Arbeit habe ich viele außergewöhnliche Wissenschaftlerinnen kennengelernt. Frauen, die Institute leiten, an medizinischen Durchbrüchen forschen, neue Technologien entwickeln oder komplexe technische Systeme voranbringen und dabei oft deutlich weniger sichtbar sind, als sie es verdient hätten.
Genau daraus entstand die Idee zu „Köpfe der Wissenschaft“.
Mit diesem Projekt möchte ich Wissenschaftlerinnen eine Plattform geben und sie in starken, modernen Portraits sichtbar machen. Nicht reduziert auf Klischees oder klassische Wissenschaftsbilder, sondern als Persönlichkeiten mit Haltung, Expertise und Einfluss.
Ich glaube, dass Sichtbarkeit etwas verändern kann. Gerade in Wissenschaft und Technik braucht es starke Vorbilder, die zeigen, wie vielfältig, modern und spannend diese Bereiche sind. Denn oft beginnt Inspiration genau dort, wo Menschen sichtbar werden.
„Köpfe der Wissenschaft“ verbindet deshalb meine fotografische Arbeit mit meiner Überzeugung, dass Wissenschaft nicht nur verstanden, sondern auch gesehen werden muss.
Why This Project?
Over the course of my work, I have met many extraordinary women in science. Women who lead institutes, conduct groundbreaking medical research, develop new technologies, or advance complex technical systems, yet often receive far less visibility than they deserve.
This is exactly where the idea for Faces of Science began.
With this project, I want to provide a platform for women in science and make them visible through strong, contemporary portraits. Not reduced to stereotypes or traditional images of scientists, but presented as individuals with expertise, conviction, and influence.
I believe that visibility has the power to create change. Science and technology, in particular, need strong role models who demonstrate how diverse, innovative, and exciting these fields truly are. Inspiration often begins the moment people become visible.
That is why Faces of Science brings together my photographic work and my belief that science should not only be understood, but also seen.
